Daily News Brief
Monday, October 26, 2026 · Before the open Two big company stories this morning and a crowded week ahead. Here is what is new and why it matters. Meta turns to stock sales to pay for AIMeta announced about $35 billion in new stock offerings this morning: roughly $22.5 billion of common stock and $12.5 billion of convertible preferred shares. It also said it plans a separate program to sell up to about $60 billion more stock over time, starting no earlier than early 2027. That program is not yet in place. One detail stands out: Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have said they may buy up to $5 billion of the new Meta shares. Those indications are not binding. Why it matters: the AI build-out is now being paid for partly by selling new shares, not just from profits. That is good news for the companies supplying chips and data centers, but new shares spread ownership thinner for existing holders. Expect both sides of that story to show up in prices this week. EQT agrees to buy Range ResourcesNatural gas producer EQT agreed to buy Range Resources in an all-stock deal. Range shareholders would get 0.987 EQT shares for each Range share, leaving EQT holders with about 73% of the combined company. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals. Both companies still report third-quarter results after the close on Tuesday, but they canceled their Wednesday earnings calls. The week ahead- Wednesday: the Federal Reserve announces its interest-rate decision.
- Wednesday after the close: Microsoft and Alphabet (Google) report earnings.
- Thursday: the first estimate of third-quarter economic growth (GDP) and the Fed's preferred inflation measure. Amazon reports after the close.
- Friday: the Bank of Japan's rate decision.
Big tech is carrying much of the market's optimism right now, so Wednesday and Thursday evenings matter.
